Inception - opening sequence analysis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VXkUzf1et4

The first part of the film is so confusing that it makes the viewer ask so many questions and then stick to want to carry on watching the film. The film starts with spectacular, strong base music which helps to build up tension and confusion to the viewers. It begins with a man dressed in casual clothing being washed up on the beach. The man then see’s two children and this is shown in a special effect to make the children look like a dream or a vision.  The character that was washed up on the beach is taken to a very rich building. In the building we see people that are dressed smarter then himself.   Mise En Scene is used to show the setting as very unique and important. From this scene the audience is able to that the people inside are very rich and has a fancy life style. This is creates contrast with the person who was washed up onto the beach.  The audience will have many questions by this time as they wanting to know why he is washed up on the beach and what the story line will be including the setting. To start the scene a close up is used to show his facial expression. Jump cut is used to switch to the mysterious building.  From the close up we can see that the main character is confused and nervures as well as sorrow.  Another jump cut is used now but this time the man who was washed up on the beach is now dressed smart and formally like the people in the building. This creates a mysteries feeling to the audience but this helps the audience to continue watching the movie to find out what just happened to make the man change.  Camera was been moved from characters to characters to ensure the audience that they are the main characters of the film and they will be playing an important role. The sound for attention to details is really good for example the focus on the sound of the wave crashing against the rock on the beach. Opening scene is effective because it uses a Varity of Editing, Mise En Scene, Camera shots and sounds to create introduction mystery. If I had to sum up the opening scene in tow words then I will say it’s full of chaos and suspense.
